Ruffle Shuffle

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! I know I did! And my sewing machines did too... Well let me tell you about this client that dropped off a settee to me a week or so ago.. She scored this RC Willey special on ksl for pennies! Sure the fabric is just horrendous (sorry to those of you that like that stuff..) but she had the vision. White linen slipcover with a long ruffle skirt. Just like the Restoration Hardware and Ballard Design catalogs, only about $1000 cheaper! I had to line the the ugly ducking because the fabric was just so loud! Before:
Now what I did not tell you was that her fabric came in 2 waves.. the store was out of white linen so we had to wait to put the skirt on till it came in. Well wouldn't you know that fabric came in this week and she decided to bring it over to me last night in her cute little "motorcycle/trike/car". It looked way fun to ride in, letting the wind blew thru your hair! Well the second she stepped into my house a typhoon decided to let loose! If you are in Utah County, you know what I am talking about... It poured for a good 10 minutes, horizontally! But she got the fabric delivered and here is the results! After:
It looks great!! I love all things linen, especially white linen... I am sure no one will be allowed to sit in that settee unless they are fresh out of the shower! Tuesday my mom came down to get a taste of what it is like to work in the "sweat shop". She had a few chairs for her office that were in need of LOTS of TLC... I mean, how can these be inviting...especially when you are the retail manager and buyer of the Emporium at Thanksgiving Point,
See what I mean...this has disgrace written all over it! We she had 4 of them! She she came over, rummaged thru my scraps and this is what we came up with! Keep in mind, this was her first attempt at slipcovers. She did great and Mo and Lou (my machines) took real good care of her! With my help of course..
So much more appropriate! There is one more to go along with the group but you won't see it till a later day...because its that kind of day today. I am now going to attempt to finish 2 more chairs before my procrastination gets the best of me...

Hold Up!

Some may call me a slacker for my lack of posts for June and thats fine. I accept it. But I will tell you I have been working.... For the most part. And because of this, you will be getting a flood of posts in the next few days. We have been playing hard and trying to enjoy the "lovely HOT" weather here in Utah... and because of the heat, and the fact that I have most of my current projects in the garage I can only work on them early in the morning or late at night. To avoid melting of course! So lets get down to the nitty gritty... This first chair came to me to be reupholstered. She had already refinished the wood which makes my life a ton earlier (thank you!). Her fabric choice was darling! We mixed and matched some fabric on the different elements of the chair. It looks amazing! If she did not know where I lived, Id keep it for myself.... Before:
After:
Its pretty spectacular if I do say so myself... Up next is a repeat client of mine. I slipcovered this little ditty for her last year. This time she has 4 chairs in need of some TLC. She is opening up a party business and whited to freshen up the look of these chairs. She picked a really fun fabric for both sets of chairs, but you only get to steal a peek at 1 set... I have yet to finish the the other set... Remember, its literally 500 degrees in my garage!! Before:
After!
Soo Fun!!! If you think those are great, wait till you see the other 2! I do have them stripped, its just a matter of putting them back together.... I have 1 spot open around the end of August. So hurry and book now, my prices will be going up soon!

Glide it out!

My client that belongs to this glider has boys...all boys!! Yes, this glider has been thru a lot, but now it was time for a make over because she is having a girl!! Her original idea was to do have pink involved, and how could you blame her...she has never know anything outside of boy colors. But when it came down to crunch time she opted for a different look., which i love! She decided to use a painters drop cloth and then black duck cloth for the piping. I love it!! its kinda hollywood glam.... It will go great with pink accents in the nursery and your not stuck with a pink glider... I boxed up the seat cushion and added a box pleat skirt to the ottoman. Now she can glide that sweet new baby in style!! Glorious! Right?! There is some exciting things in the works for me and my "fungeon" right now and I am keeping you in suspense!! I still have room for a few more clients in august. You better hurry up and book soon, because prices will be going up!

ruffled out...

So my friend officially renamed the dungeon to "fun-geon" and I am rolling with it! Sure its dark and unfinished, but hey, it works and dang it! Lots of fun happens down there! I am headed out of town for the weekend on a "stay cation" with the whole fam! We go up to Deer Valley every summer and stay in a fabulous house and do nothing but play. So excited!! But I wanted to share an ottoman I finished yesterday for one of my favorite clients! She is awesome! She has a chair/ottoman combo we are doing. She originally was gonna do a more expensive fabric for the chair, but after seeing the ottoman she switched gears. So will be doing her chair when I get home. So back to the ottoman. She had a certain way she wanted the ottoman to look. So after a few magazine shots and hand drawn sketches later (which is so funny, both of our hand drawn pictures look like my 3 yr old drew them! lol!) we nailed down the design. Instead of doing the tradition piping with welt, we did a french welt and then ruffled it. She wanted a more loose and casual fit, so I hemmed the bottom and vuala! Before: After: How sweet it that! It turned out great!! After seeing it, she decided against going with super expensive fabric for the chair. Instead she is gonna use drop cloth and get a yard or two of the expensive stuff and will do the piping and a few pillows out of it. This was a good call since the chair will be in the family room. Just a reminder.... get your stuff booked with me soon to keep my current prices, they will be going up in a few weeks!

Pillow Talk

Can I just say...My clients are the best!!! Cute Katie came to me to make some pillows for her. Amanda, who happens to be amazing, was the one who told her about me! Katie had some fabulous fabric she had been hanging on to for a while and now was the time to turn stack of random fabric into some pretty rockin pillows! I just love the prints she went with! Did I mention she is super smart too. She went to ikea and bought white curtain panels to be used as the backs for the pillows. Because she did that, she was able to stretch her fabric further, we were able to get 2 pillows out of each yard instead of 1 that was front and back. Here I did the fun paisley pillow and the black and white moroccan print behind. So fun! Here I did the cute little bolster pillow out of the left over paisley print. i could not get over this awesome geometric print! We did 7 pillows total. I can't wait to see the room with all the pillows together! **Just a reminder....my prices will be going up in the next few weeks, so hurry and book now so you can get my CURRENT pricing for all your future projects! Thats how much I love my clients!!**

Just a heads up...

Happy Memorial Day!! I hope you are spending it wisely! I just wanted to drop a note between projects and tell you that I will be raising my prices in the next few months. So my Memorial Day gift to you is: Book your project before the change and I will give you my current pricing for any future projects you may have! Thats right! If I have done work for you anytime up to the time my prices change, you get my CURRENT prices for anything else in the future!! Don't worry, I'll give you a heads up as to when the the price increase will happen, but I want to give my fabulous clients, readers, followers, and stalkers (blog, that is..) the opportunity to get some Sewing Nerd love!! It won't be a super huge increase by any means, I love keeping things affordable, thats the point, but the time has come my friends, the time has come.

The BOLD and the Beautiful

Jen has to be one of my favorite clients!!! She is just so happy and cheerful to be around. We actually found each other about a year ago. She has been toying with the idea of slipcovering these very red and very BOLD pottery barn chairs. While she was going back and forth with the idea, I slipcovered a chair for her cute mom, Bev! Oh how I love these two women:) So when cute Jen found the perfect fabric to go with her newly redecorated front room she called me up and we got to it! Before:
Her chairs were great to start with, but she wanted to tone the red down... So thats exactly what we did! After:
We opted against doing a skirt, they have such cute legs! These chairs had some tucking ability! You could easily lose a family of 4 in the there! It was perfect because there was no seat cushions to keep the slipcover in place. She sent me pictures from her phone that night with the chairs in their proper home. I love how her room turned out! Great job Jen!!
I am now going to attempt to update my before/after page.... wish me luck!!!
