It's go time!

So I have been playing catch up now that I have a place to work out of.. Like working like a crazy lady catch-up.. Its a good thing I love making slipcovers! So in 4 days I managed to make and sew a sectional and cushions, some wingback cushions and make slipcovers for a pair of wingback chairs a client purchased from me! Seriously! I was able to drop off the wingback chairs tonight and boy was my client thrilled! Remember this little story.. well, I am happy to report that my client was able to get her matching chairs and is happy as can be! My client is a retired interior designer from California. She wanted this chair from the second she saw it but was a little too late at "claiming" it hers. So I was able to make her a pair of them to go at each end of her kitchen table. Here they are! She had all of her Christmas decor out ready for the season. Her home had a european country vibe to it, lots of pale yellows, whites and treys injected with blues here and there as well as some rustic pieces to give it a more worn feeling. I love how the chairs pop at the heads of the table! **Forgive the horrible quality photos, it was night, she had her Christmas decor lit and it was dark in the room... agh! But still this will give you an idea..

Here are a few shots with the flash on..

I wish I could have dropped them off in the day to get better pics, but hey.. beggars can't be choosers! She was beyond thrilled about how her chairs turned out! She sent me away with her dining room chair cushions and bar stool cushions because she wanted me to make coordinates to go with her new chairs!

I also made a few seat cushions for a friend that tackled reupholstered her wing back chairs. I love it when people get ambitious and tackle that kind of project! She ran out of steam when it came to the cushions.. Um... I may have a crush on her fabric!!

I am hoping that Home Fabrics gets another shipment of this cause it is amazing!!! and lastly I finished up a sectional but you won't see this one till the end of the week after I am able to drop it off. I can't wait to see how it turned out, we got creative, to say the least. I have a few more pieces of furniture that I will be putting in my easy shop (ya, I know, I have an easy shop that has sat empty for like, forever!) so stay tuned!!!! I am also booking for January 2015. Where has the time gone!? And no, we are still not in our house yet. Pray for me!!!

mia

Soo.. I have been a little MIA, I apologize, but this remodel is killing my work production! I have a line up of clients to get to and I thank you for all of your patients! Really, I am getting anxiety knowing people are ready to go! But I am happy to report that while our house is not ready for us to move into yet, I have found a space that I can set up shop to get things going again! i am super excited! I am going nuts!! I'll be able to move all of my stuff in this weekend and will be ready to get going next week. You see, I am lucky to have a Dad who works in real estate and property management and he just happened to have a vacant space in one of his shopping centers. I'll be able to work out of it while we finish the house and I couldnt be happier! If you want to come find me I'll be in Orem in Park Place shopping center just down from Smiths and Tuesday Mornings.. Sure I will be sharing the space with the floral shop next door (they are using it for overflow storage) but it has tons of space and an bathroom! noe if only i could "borrow" some internet access so I can keep Oakley occupied while work...

Here are some pics i snapped when I went to check it out. they are rough.. very rough!

Once I get situated I'll post some pics!

Rumble in the "fabric" jungle..

So my mom sent me a text yesterday telling me they had sold the "yellow" chair over the weekend.  I was super stoked!  I thought to myself, "One down, 3 to go!"  For those of you who don't know or remember, I participated in Swiss Days this year and had 4 chairs made for Slipcovers.  They were well received but not an impulse buy.. Which I knew.  So after Swiss Days was over my mom offered to put them in the floor at The Emporium at Thanksgiving Point.

This is what the chairs look like:
I had 1 of the blue floral, one yellow and a pair of the grey and white print.  Pretty great!

Well saturday a customer came in and bought the yellow chair.  So fast forward to Monday.  I get my moms text that it sold. But then about an hour later she called me with thee best story ever!!  She called to tell me that they had an "incident" saturday regarding one of my chairs... "Incident"??!  What?!

Apparently there were two customers fighting over the yellow chair!  I just about died when she told me!! I guess one lady was looking at it wanting to buy it while the other was paying for it.  One thing lead to another and a kurfufle broke out.  The lady that bought it ended up just grabbing it and took it to her car!! Who knew yellow and white fabric would have such a reaction!!

But don't you worry, there was a peaceful ending. The customer that was unable to buy them ended up buying not one but two of my chairs to have the exact same Slipcovers made for them!  So that means I have one, left... For now.  I have lowered the price to $799 per chair and you can pick from the blue floral or the pair of grey and white chairs(which will have a delay because one chair will need to be built..)..or you can choose your own fabric;)

Slow and steady..

I am checking in with my two loyal followers to give a progress report of how our adventure is going.. First off, if you know me at all you know that A- I am a very scheduled person.  I love structure, schedules and a game plan! And B- I am not super patient... So this experience is teaching me how to let go a little (I mean a lot!!) and patients.  Lots and lots of patients!!

You see, we are bunking up at my in-laws in Lehi, (bless their hearts!) and I am commuting everyday to take the kids to school in Springville.  The drive is not bad, it's the whole 1/2 day kindergarten thing that is killing me!!! I drop both kids off in the morning and then have to hang out. Between pick ups.  All day.  Luckily the barn is close by.  It's my saving grace!!

And Oaks usually passes out somewhere in between..

So here is what our little "fixer upper" looks like right now. We are having to go room by room in some cases because we had to move all our stuff there (I would have just stored it but the hubs did not want to have to move it again and wanted to save $.. If you ask me it it would have been worth the $$, but then again that's probably why I am not in charge😳). Soo, because we have ALL our stuff there it's being shuffled from room to room as they get done.. ( but he did not want to move it twice. Soo.... Lol!  I still love him!)

Here is the front room.  We ripped off the lovely blinds, scraped the ceiling and sanded the paneling.  Just little bit of work makes it look so much better!!

It's gonna look awesome when it's all painted and trimmed out! I love our little mail slot by the front door.  Sure it may be a little ghetto but I love it!!

Here is one of the kids bedrooms.. Like I said, we had to move stuff around..
But it gives you an idea of the paint and trim.  Such a change from before!

This next one is of the kids bath, or the original ONLY bath in the house before the addition.. The tub is a cast iron tub that the previous owners refinished.. Because that thing ain't ever coming out!! All we did here was paint the beadboard, layed new tile, added a new toilet and soon to be new fixtures.. There is still some work to be done, but not much.

Here is the kitchen.. Yikes!!!
We are refinishing the cabinets and the rest is getting an overhaul!!! It's kind of a lot to take in but it will come together nicely! Right?

Here is the family room, not much has been done other than scraping the ceiling and ripping out carpet..
It's more like a "holding room for now..

This is the new master bath.  It used to be the laundry/bathroom but as you can see.. That has changed.  We removed the "laundry" part and will be moving that to the basement.  It's amazing how much bigger it already looks!

Now for the outside... My amazing husband is giving the exterior a major overhaul!  He put in a new paver walkway, sprinklers, curbing and now shrubs.  I may have caught him in the act... There is more to do in landscaping but this is not shabby for a day's work;)

There is still a lot more to go.... A new liitle front porch, colums, trim, window boxes, paint and a few new light fixtures.

Now you can see why I have not been sewing.. Because we are living out of boxes!!! But it's been fun soo far.  I'll let you know where my patients stand in another week...

I am booking for Nov/Dec and I still have a few pieces of furniture left from Swiss Days.  Contact me if you want on the schedule! I'll be itching to get back to sewing and having a regular schedule!!!

Home sweet home???

So it's been almost a week since we left good old St George and yes, I do miss it. But I am excited about our new adventure.  This week has been hard on me, not sad or emotional.. Hard in the fact that I have been SOO busy the last few months that now I am being forced to nothing and it's killing me!!! For those of you who, like me, can't sit still, doing just that is hard! Lol!  We are staying at my inlaws while our house is going thru renovations, my kids have had the week off of school and I am going crazy not being able to go down to our house to work on it!  The husband and crew are in the middle of demo and it's no place for kiddos...
So, here I am.  Just sitting.. And since I can't sew, I'll post some pictures of the progress of the house.  This was what I came "home" to saturday... But first a little info on the house.
The original house was built in the 50's.  800 sqft on the main, which consisted of a kitchen, living room, 2 beds and 1 small bath.  The dungeon is just that.. 800 sqft of old basement with a fruit room and storage.  The previois owners put an 800 sqft addition on the back in the 70's which added a huge family room a "master" bed and another full bath/laundry combo. The addition makes the house. Here are pics of what it looks like right now. So don't judge!!
My husband ripped out all the over grown bushes in the front to make way for new landscaping.
The carpet in the addition came out so we could lay new wood floors, paint the paneling and of course scrape the popcorn ceiling.
These cabinets will stay but I am still trying to figure out what to do with them...
The kitchen is actually pretty great! The cabinets are awesome, they just need a little tlc and paint.. The counters were the first thing to go!  Green marmolium!  I am sure they'll be back in style soon;)
Here is the bath/laundry room.  Um.. The shower is literally 3'x3' green tiles from floor to ceiling!  My poor husband could barely fit in, let alone turn around!! The new laundry will be moved to the basement allowing us to have a bigger bathroom and decent size shower!
Here is the front room of the house/partial storage at the moment! It has awesome big windows in the front that I am sure will cost and arm and a leg and another arm to replace.  So, they'll stay for now.. The house is small and old but it is full of potential and I really love it!!

We have found all sorts of treasures too!  We are hoping some of the funds will cash out! We also found an old picture of the cute couple that lived in the house from a long time ago! I'll have to take a picture of it! It's money!  They are all wearing coordinating Christmas outfits in the front room. It's probably from the 60's' it's awesome!
I'll post the weeks progress this weekend, it's crazy to see the transformation!! So until then, me and my mutts have been hanging out at the barn having a blast!!
If you are wanting Slipcovers still get in touch with me even tho I am on a "forced" break.. You can find fabric and get it ready to go. My calendar is booking up and if you are wanting things done before the holidays time is running out!

Also, there are still a few pieces of furniture left over from Swiss Days.  You can go see them at Thanksgiving Point!
Contact me if you have any questions!!! I welcome it right now out of bordum!!!!

We're moving. again...

So as if I were not tired enough as it is after Swiss Days and a trip to Powell, I have one week to finish packing up the house because we are moving. again.. yes. you heard me right. We are moving again! That makes the total number of moves in one year to 3. Kill me. But its a good move! As much as I have loved living in St George and making some amazing friends, being with my husband under the same roof is more important! When we moved down here, he was working here in St. George. He put a few foremen in charge of his landscaping crews up North so he could grow the business down here, but then the work up north got crazy busy he headed back up in March to run things. So, that left me here with the kids, the dog and the horse while he stayed at his folks house while he worked.

We decided for both of our sanities it was best we move back up to good old Utah County. so we listed the house and boom. It sold. We actual sold the house last month but begged the buyers to let us stay till the 15th of September. So here I am, supposed to be packing but suffering from a lack of motivation, while recovering from a super fun trip to Lake Powell this past weekend. I can't complain, we did this to ourselves.. lol! But the good news is Ill be back in Utah County so I can get back to my regular slipcovering schedule!

We also bought a house, since everything happened so fast we were planning on just renting something, but lets be honest, the rental market in Utah County is a little, well. touch and go.. So we we decided that we'd buy an older home that needed a little bit of love, live in it for a year or two till we can find the right piece of land to build the house we've always wanted. Its a cute little house in Springville that the original owners lived in the majority of their lives. Its super clean, just vintage. We figure we can always rent it out or sell it after but this way we won't be on anyone else's time frame as far as living situations go.. (remember when we rented a house for a hot minute because it sold for under us??) Its gonna be a test of patients and sacrifice, for sure, but we both think it will be well worth it! Here is the newest addition..

I am excited to see what we can do with this little gem. We are going from a 2500 sq ft home on one slab to a 2400 sq ft home including a small, very small 800 sq ft basement. That is more like a dungeon.. But hey, we only have 2 kids so I think we can manage. But there is just something about this house that gets us excited about having a new project (cause thats really what we need right now.. not) but hey, if it gets us that farm house on property in a few years, it is well worth it to us!

We head out of St. George this weekend closing one chapter of our lives but are excited to start the next and see whats in store. I never thought in a million years we'd be doing this. I loved LOVED my home in St. George, but its just a house. I am excited for a new challenge and I most excited to have a husband, dad and best friend back!!

So I am sure you'll be seeing posts about our new adventure mixed in with slipovers. But I am excited to be tons closer to my clients and getting back into the groove of things. So, If you are needing anything slipcovered, let me know. I am out of commission till October but feel free to contact me, you can at least find fabric while you wait.

Home Stretch

Today I am posting about a cute client of mine that lives in Vegas. She actually found me a few months back and contacted me about getting some slipcovers made for her after her move to Vegas. Well last month when I was in Mesquite vacationing with my my mom, aunts and cousins she met me there with a car load of furniture! Yes. I know. Mesquite?? Well my mom sisters LOVE that place. We go every year over the 24th of July. We pack up the kids and stay for a few days and swim all day long. The adults in the group love (that may be an understatement..) to gamble and play together. The kids love it cause they get to swim and play with cousins and the adults love it cause they sneak out at random time during the day and night to play in the casino. They are a kick to watch!!

Back to business.. my client had a pair of parsons chair and and a pair of ottomans she need slipcovered along with a few other odd and ends. here are the before pics

here are the after shots! she had me do two different slipcovers for the parsons chairs, both a cute floral but different skirt lengths.

Here is the ottoman after,

They both turned out great and I know she will be super happy with them!

I am starting on the home stretch of getting my Swiss Days furniture wrapped up. I got 50 pillows cut, sewn and surged this past weekend with the help of my best BFF ever!! She is amazing and I could not be happier that she showed up to help! She is an amazing quilter too! All I have left is to finish up 4 wing chairs. here is a little sneak peak of a 1 of the 4.. This one happens to be one of a matching pair. I am over the moon excited about how they are coming together! I just hope people feel the same way and buy them!! anyways... enjoy little teaser!
